The Yoga of Joints and Glands is composed of gentle and subtle movements with great benefits for yoga practitioners of all levels and all ages, yoga teachers as well as beginners.
It originally developed from Prana Vidya "the knowledge of subtle pranic (energy) channels" that move the physical body. These practices lead in a natural way to restoring awareness/vitality to the body and mind.
The Yoga of Joints and Glands can be practiced systematically as a session in itself or could be integrated into a hatha yoga session. It could also be practiced as a preparation for Yoga Nidra or meditation. These practices are rooted in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition as it was taught by Swami Rama.
Among many benefits of this practice, it releases tension in the joints, promotes circulation, lubrication and extends awareness to subtle areas of the body. More specifically, it has been recommended for arthritis, rheumatism, and body stiffness.
Yoga Nidra: Yoga Nidra is a practice of connecting with our Supreme Self by relaxing the physical and mental bodies. Yoga Nidra is the state of total awareness while the body is at its highest state of relaxation. Nidra means sleep in Sanskrit. In Yoga Nidra, you leave the Waking State and pass the Dreaming State and enter the State of Deep, Deep Sleep (No Dream), yet remain awake.
In this journey we go beyond the body sensations, we observe the mind as we continue through the latent impressions of thoughts, feelings, emotions, images, and beliefs and finally arrive at the cosmic ocean of awareness. Our true nature.
Yoga Nidra has many applications and goals. This practice has been used to re-program the subconsciousness and release negative emotions and thought patterns. Yoga Nidra also has been used effectively in treatment of depression, insomnia, anxiety, PTSD, and also chronic pain, and chemical dependency.
